Choosing a Wood Stain Color

Choosing an oil based stain color for your wood siding, wood fence, garden deck or patio is a very personal decision. Each of our stain colors was designed with a specific type of wood in mind.

Our most popular cedar deck and fence stain for example is Warm Honey Gold.  This is a popular cedar stain because in most cases the honey gold stain is very neutral on cedar wood.  It looks about the color of the wood when it is damp.

If you have a cedar garden deck or fence that is surrounded by colorful landscaping however, you might choose a darker wood stain to give the deck a more subdued look.  For example, our Amaretto stain color will give a new cedar deck a bit of a reddish bronze patina.  Brown Sugar is more bronzy on a cedar deck without the hint of red.

It's always best to test the color of each stain on wood matching your project.  If you are building a new cedar deck, wood fence, new log home or installing new wood siding, try to retain some of the scrap wood to help pick the wood stain color that is right for you.
