Features
  • Tips for using Wood-Tux on damp/wet wood
  •
  • 1.  It is always better to stain dry wood as dry wood will always absorb more product.
  •
  • 2.  Slow down, it takes longer for stain to penetrate into wet wood.  Plan on being on the job at least 30% longer.  Remember its better to work slow than not work at all.
  •
  • 3.  If the wood is really wet, water puddles will begin forming on the surface soon after you apply the stain.  This is because the stain is soaking in and pushing the water out.  Remove the water puddles with a dry rag.
  •
  • 4.  If the wood is really wet the stain your are applying will turn yellow as it mixes with the water, this is normal.  It may even look muttled as it begins to dry.  It will eventually even out as all the moisture is pushed out of the wood.
  •
  • 5.  Watch your spread rate.  For example if you normally get 250 square feet per gallon on dry wood, you want to be close to that even when the wood is damp or wet.  You may have to apply, wipe the water as it rises to the surface and apply again to get the wood to absorb as much product as possible.
  •
  • 6.  When you stain a wet deck it is going to take longer to dry/cure.  If it would normally be dry to touch in 30 min to an hour, it could take twice that long. Just like when you stain a dry deck, you never want to over apply and leave excess product sitting on the surface or they will remain tacky ad leave shiny spots.
  •
  • 7.  If the finish cures and it does not have the luster you are used to seeing or it looks a little dull, wipe it with a rag that is damp with stain.  Your goal is just to "freshen it up" so don't over apply at this point.  As long as you get the surface damp with stain you can not under apply.
  •
  • 8.  Practice at home before you try it in the field.  Play around with some pieces of damp, wet and dry wood so you understand how the product dives and performs with the various moisture levels.
